Early Warning System
Use of Seasonal Calendars
Climate Adaptation Effectiveness
By scheduling planting with real-time climate information via seasonal calendars, smallholder farmers were able to coincide with the early or late rainy seasons or avoid disasters. (Chandra et al., 2017, p.222)

Evaluations
Economic / Financial Effectiveness
Economic loss due to the impacts of climate change are lessened since farmers can anticipate for weather changes.
Technical Feasibility
The seasonal calendar was developed under the auspices of the climate-resiliency field school. These practices however are knowledge intensive and required training, farmer time, and NGO resources. (Chandra et al. 2017)
Social Acceptability
Since farmers use the seasonal calendar to record their own weather observations, this indicates that this climate change solution is useful and acceptable to them. Farmers also reported that seasonal calendars are better tools for planting under organic agriculture compared to relying on fertilizers and chemicals to mitigate drought effects on high-value crops—indirect contribution to GHG mitigation.
Environmental Impact
Implementing this climate change solution does not have direct environmental impacts.
Mitigation co-benefit
Farmers also reported that seasonal calendars are better tools for planting under organic agriculture compared to relying on fertilizers and chemicals to mitigate drought effects on high-value crops—indirect contribution to GHG mitigation. (Chandra et al., 2017, p.222.)
